Hints & Tips: an Introduction to Your Library
Welcome! Faculty members are warmly invited to use the Library. Please come in, introduce yourself to the staff, and peruse the wide variety of materials that are available to you and your students!
Tips to help you make the most of the services and resources the Library has to offer:
Please let us know if your students are doing a library assignment!
Check the Library's holdings before giving students library assigments!
Some students are shy about asking for help.
“Pathfinders” are available on many topics.
Request new materials.
Schedule library instruction for your classes!
Please let us know if your students are doing a library assignment!
We are happy to assist your students in any way that we can. Being aware of how many students will be coming in, what their assignment is, and when the assignment is due will help us to help them!
Check the Library's holdings before giving students library assigments!
If we don't own materials you wish to use, you will need to order them well in advance, or inform students that they will have to go elsewhere to obtain specific items. If possible, the Library staff will secure photocopies of required articles not available on campus. A fee may be charged for this service. Please check with your division dean before requesting photocopies if a fee is to be charged.
Some students are shy about asking for help.
Please assure them that the personnel at the Library are more than happy to answer questions and help students locate specific information. Let them know that when they ask questions they're not bothering us; it's what we're here for!
"Pathfinders" are available on many topics.
“Pathfinders” guide students in doing research by indicating sources of information—reference books, periodical indexes, location of bibliographies, etc. “Pathfinders” are located directly ahead and to the right as you come through the main entrance to the Library, and also on our main web page under "Pathfinders".
Request new materials.
We appreciate your feedback. If you see an area of our collection that needs updating, please recommend some materials for us to purchase! Requests for books or AV materials to be ordered for the Library collection should be submitted either on order cards, which may be obtained from the division dean or from the Library Circulation Desk, or online using our materials request form. Please supply as complete information as possible, note how many copies are needed, sign the card and submit it to your division dean who will initial it and submit it to the Library’s director. If you with the item to be placed on Reserve, write “RESERVE” and the course number (e.g. PSY 101) after your name. If you wish to be notified when the item is ready for circulation, write “NOTIFY” after your name.
Schedule library instruction for your classes!
