    This site is is maintained by a non-profit organization, GovEngine, Inc.,  "dedicated to promoting e-Government initiatives and interconnectivity between the federal, state, and local levels of government."   Sections include: the Federal Government, Federal Courts, State Governments, State Courts, and Local Governments.  At the state and local levels,  you may click on a state from a map of the U.S. to find numerous links to state (at the levels of the state home page; the legislative, judicial, and executive branches; and state resources) and local government sites ( at the county, municipality, and township levels.)
     

    United States Government Resources:

    Search Engines (all focus on huge amounts of government information, none are totally comprehensive):

    Fedworld
    A central access point for locating and acquiring scientific, technical and engineering,and business-related government information maintained by The National Technical Information Service.  The Commerce Business Daily may be accessed here.  A word of caution:  access to most reports are fee-based.

    USA.Gov
    The Government's official web portal to all kinds of U.S. government websites and information.

    Google U.S. Government Search
    An easy-to-search, comprehensive database focusing on all aspects of government.

    GPO Access
    A multi-search, comprehensive database provided by the Superintendent of  Documents.  Full-text searching is available for the Federal Register, U.S. Code, Congressional Record, Congressional Documents, Budget of the U.S., Economic Report of the President, the Unified Agenda, Supreme Court decisions, the Code of Federal Regulations, and the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications.

    Thomas
    The single best source of legislative information on the Internet. Gives a summary and status of each bill introduced in Congress beginning with the 93rd Congress (1973-1974); provides full text of each bill; summarizes major legislation; lists public laws by number; lists roll call votes.  Users may also search the Congressional Record starting with the 101st Congress (1989-1990).  Lists information on House and Senate committees and those committees' reports.  Because of links to both chambers, to legislative branch agencies and to executive and judicial branches, it has been listed here as a comprehensive search engine.


    Major U.S. Government Sites:

    Bureau of Labor Statistics
    Search for information concerning labor economics and statistics, wages, and employment/unemployment.  Also searches the Occupational Outlook Handbook and the O'NET.

    Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
    Search for health statistics, current information on health topics, current health news and travel health issues.

    FEDSTATS
    Search for U.S. government statistics from more than 70 agencies.

    Federal Depository Library Program Locator Tools and Services
    These tools and services link to government information in the Federal Electronic 
    Collection and other Federal government agency sites.

    Food and Drug Administration
    Search for information on the safety of foods, human drugs, animal drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, and medical products.

    National Center for Education Statistics
    Search for statistics and reports on all aspects of education in the U.S.- kindergarten through graduate school.

    National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
    Search for data and information on topics as varied as weather, climate, oceans, tornadoes, and hurricanes.

    Open CRS: Congressional Research Reports for the People
    This site, published by the Center for Democracy and Technology, provides access to the Congressional Research Service reports that have been made available to the public.

    U.S. Census Bureau
    Search for statistical information from one of the decennial population census or one of the economic census which is conducted every five years.

    U.S. Central Intelligence Agency
    Search for background information on the Agency, the intelligence community, and the Freedom of Information Act.  The World Factbook is available with in-depth information on every country of the world.

    U.S.Patent and Trademark Office
    Search the full-text patent database from 1976 through the present.  The Trademark Database is available with images.  Search also the Official Gazette Notices and the Agent and Attorney Roster.

    U.S.Supreme Court
    Search full-text Supreme Court decisions for recent years.  Check the docket for future cases and when they will be argued.  For a full-text database for Supreme Court decisions 1937-1975, use the website  Fedworld.
     GPO Access has a full-text database for court decisions from 1992 through the present.


    Contact Your Government Representatives:

    U.S. House of Representatives
    The official website of the House, which offers a service to assist in finding and contacting Members of the House.  For some, you may fill out a form, which will be forwarded immediately to the Representative.  For others, you may be directed to his or her website, where you may email directly, or be provided with information on how to contact the Representative.  Also provides a schedule which the House intends to consider, roll call votes, Committee Hearing schedules, and the full-text, searchable United States Code.

    The U.S. Senate
    The official website of the Senate, where you may link to the senators' websites to contact them via email.  Some of the websites provide a form to send a message immediately, and some provide email and postal addresses where you may reach your senator.  You may also search for a bill by number or keyword, find out who comprises various committees, and learn about the roll call votes for current and past Senate votes. 

    The White House
    Offers information about the White House, events, and the activities of the President.  Gives the mailing address of and phone numbers for the White House, as well as forms to fill out and send by email to the President, Vice-President, First Lady, and Mrs. Cheney.
