Electronic Resources and Services

The past year has brought some very exciting technological changes to the Library. We joined the Access Pennsylvania Database Project, which aims to “facilitate resource sharing among libraries throughout the Commonwealth via the World Wide Web.” As a result of our involvement with AccessPA, we now have a subscription to several new databases, including Contemporary Authors , NoveList , and Book Index with Reviews.

When you take a look at these new databases, you will notice that our website has been redesigned. To make searching for the materials you need more intuitive, we relabeled the databases “Articles” and the catalog “Books and AV.” We also added new categories, such as Information Literacy and Guide to the Library for Faculty. If you're not sure what category holds the information you need, check the Sitemap to see the entire Library web site laid out in outline form.

There is now also a link on our website to “Blogos,” our new Library blog. You might be wondering, “What in the world is a blog?” A blog (short for “web log”) is a dynamic web site that is published in entries like a journal, with the most recent post at the top of the screen. We use our blog to let you know about events, new materials and deadlines, to point you to interesting web sites and other resources, and to keep you informed about what's going on in the Library. If you would like to share your thoughts with us about an entry on the blog, click “comment” and enter your comments. The comments are moderated, which means we read them before they get published on the web site, and, so, don't worry if it takes a few hours for your comment to appear!

As we all know, technology changes at a rapid pace. Technology in the Library is no exception! If you have any questions about how to use a database, what electronic resources are available to you, or if you'd just like a re-orientation to the services the Library offers, please feel free to stop by or call the Reference Desk ( 215-641-6594), or to contact me directly at 215-641-6592 or gkeer@mc3.edu .
