    The Learning Assistance Lab

by Ann M. Niggemann, Tutorial Coordinator

    Working on PC

The fall semester is underway and the LAL has been bustling with activity. Our tutoring schedule is available either at our circulation desk or via the website. Our popular group tutoring sessions, as well as our writing and study skills workshops are in progress.

We have added a new MLA (Modern Language Association) workshop to our writing workshop schedule. The workshop offers students the opportunity to understand a format used for research papers assigned for Humanities courses. The hour-long workshop reviews the advantage of analysis over summary, avoiding plagiarism, parenthetical citation within the research paper, and documentation formats required for the Works Cited page.

Here is an overview of our services and some useful contact information:

    The Learning Lab's Services

Group Tutoring —an alternative to one on one tutoring; offered for some of the most popular courses offered at MCCC

    DEVELOPMENTAL STUDIES LAB

by Mary Ellen Ryan, DSL Facilitator

The Developmental Studies Lab (DSL) offers multimedia-based courses in ENG 010, ENG 011, MAT 010, MAT 011, REA 009, and REA 018. The lab is staffed at all times with tutors to help students with their instructional program.

The DSL requires minimum attendance of four hours per week. Students can set the four hour minimum to wrap around their personal schedule. Students can come to the lab anytime during the seventy-five per week that it is open. Because of the design of the DSL courses, students move at their own pace.

Please stop by the Developmental Studies lab in College Hall Room 307 for additional information on this instruction approach.
