Staff Notes…
by Mary Lou Neighbour, AV Librarian
The College Libraries have long been members of a regional library cooperative, the Tri-state College Library Cooperative (TCLC). Formed in 1967, TCLC is now comprised of 45 academic libraries of colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. We are proud to say that Library Director, Diane Lovelace, has been elected to the TCLC Executive Committee, and Database Manager, Lisa McColl, has been elected to a second term as secretary of the TCLC Executive Committee. Congratulations to them both! Lisa also is doing double duty by serving as the TCLC webmaster.
Professional library staff have attended some key workshops, meetings, and training sessions over the past months. Assistant Director, Debbie Dulepski, traveled to the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in New Orleans in June. This is the premiere library professional conference in the United States. Debbie returned with arm loads of handouts and notes from sessions she attended to help keep herself and her colleagues current.
In March, Database Manager, Lisa McColl, attended the “Sirsi Superconference 2006” in Nashville. This is the yearly conference of users of Sirsi online catalog products such as our WebCat. Lisa learned much which has been of use in the inventory project we are now implementing. In addition, she gained a great deal of knowledge in cataloging, new versions of the software to which we will be upgrading, and authority control -- all of which are key to an optimum online catalog.
Also in March, Electronic Resources Librarian, Gretchen Keer, attended the “Computers in Libraries” conference in Washington, DC. Gretchen went to workshops on web design, communities and collaboration, and digital innovations. The highlight was a session called “Weblogs as Customer Communication and Collaboration Tools.” As our Library pages and blog webmaster, Gretchen found the sessions very informative.
Unfortunately, two part-time staff members have left their positions in The Brendlinger Library. Darren Clossin, PT periodicals assistant, and Sarah Penniman, PT acquisitions clerk, have left the College for new employment. Darren now has a full-time managerial position at the Landis supermarket in Schwenksville. Sarah, who is pursuing her masters in library science at Drexel, has moved to a full-time position at Ursinus as an interlibrary loan assistant. We wish them the best of luck in their new positions. We will miss them!
