Placement Testing Information
All MCCC students are required to take placement tests in reading, mathematics, and English before registering for classes. These tests measure skills in these three basic areas to determine readiness for college-level coursework. Although the tests do not affect admission to the College, students who place at pre-college levels are required to take the appropriate developmental courses. Information for students who may qualify for testing exemptions is listed below.
The testing time may vary from one to three hours, depending upon individual situations. No fee is charged. No calculators are permitted. Testing is done on a computer. Paper/pencil testing may also be required. Writing samples are sometimes required. No food or drink is allowed in the Testing Centers.
Mandatory Placement
College policy requires students to be tested in reading, English, and math; and if so indicated to be mandatorily placed into developmental level courses. Graduation from the College requires developmental coursework to be completed.
