Placement Testing Information
Understanding Placement Testing Results
Placement tests indicate at what level of English, mathematics, or reading you need to begin in order to be successful at Montgomery County Community College.
If you placed into
ENG 010 - You need to brush up in basic grammar and sentence construction.
ENG 011 - You need to review basic grammar, punctuation, and paragraph construction.
ENG 101 - You placed into College level English composition.
If you placed into
MAT 010 - You need to brush up in basic arithmetic, fractions, decimals, and
percentages.
MAT 011 - You need to learn or review basic algebra.
UND 116 - You have placed into College level mathematics and may take any math
courses: MAT 100, 103, 106, 108, and 115. An advisor will help you
make the best choice based on your career and educational plans.
MAT 161 - You have placed into College level pre-calculus I.
MAT 162 - You have placed into College level pre-calculus II.
MAT 190 - You have placed into College level calculus.
If you placed into
REA 009 - You need to brush up in fundamental reading skills.
REA 014 - You need to build American vocabulary (ESL students only).
REA 017 - You need to increase your American vocabulary and reading
comprehension. (ESL students only).
REA 018 - You need to increase your vocabulary, reading speed and comprehension.
REA 101 - You placed into College level reading and study skills. This course
will increase speed and comprehension and enhance study skills proficiency.
If you placed into
ESL 003 - This course covers the alphabet and basic vocabulary.
ESL 004 - This course will introduce reading, speaking and spelling.
ESL 005 - You placed into the basic English as a Second Language semi-intensive
course to increase your English speaking, writing, and listening skills.
ESL 006 - You need to increase your basic English grammar, speaking, writing,
and listening skills.
ESL 010 - You need to develop your basic American English grammar and writing
skills. (Should also take REA 014)
ESL 011 - You need to learn English grammar and paragraph construction. (Should also take REA 017)
