Ninth Annual MCCC "STARS"
Student Art Contest 2008-2009

The STARS Contest invites students to use the power of art to speak for social justice. All current credit or non-credit (full or part-time) students at any MCCC campus may enter.

Due Date: Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Prizes

    First Prize: $300
    Second Prize: $200
    Third Prize: $100

Dimensions

Your choice, but only two-dimensional artwork can be accepted. Frame and/or mat optional.

In the past, submissions have ranged in size between a minimum of 14 X 17 inches to a maximum of 20 X 26 inches, not including the optional frame or mat. You may certainly decide to go outside this range of sizes, but please keep in mind that extremely small or extremely large entries may be difficult for us to frame and display.

Medium

Your choice. You may mix media.

Judging

Entries will be judged by professional artists from the community and by selected members of the STARS Committee. Criteria for judging are:

  1. How well the artwork illustrates the theme from social justice that you have chosen,
  2. How aesthetically pleasing the artwork is, and
  3. How suitable the artwork is for display representing MCCC.

Honors

Winning artwork will be displayed on campus during the academic year following the contest. After the first year of display, the First Prize winning art will be displayed permanently at MCCC; all other winning artwork will be returned to the artist.
