Women’s Basketball Tournament - Rules

All NCAA rules will govern play.


Eligibility

    • All players must be currently registered MCCC students.
    • All players must be registered on their official team roster (team captain is responsible for updating their teams roster).

Equipment

    • All players must wear appropriate attire.
    • Sneakers must be worn.
    • Street clothes are not allowed.
    • No jewelry allowed.
    • The College will provide matching numbered jerseys.

Players

    • A team roster will consist of a minimum of 3 players and a maximum of 7.
    • A team may start and play the game with a minimum of 2 players.
    • All players must be MCCC students.
    • Teams attempting to register a non-student will be suspended form intramural play.

Forfeits

    • Game time is forfeit time. All teams and players must be signed in and ready to play by game time.
    • Game time is 12:30pm.
    • A team may play with 2 players.
    • In order to receive a forfeit, the opposing team must be signed in and ready to play by game time.
    • Two (2) forfeits during the season will result in the team missing the playoffs.

Play

    • The game will consist of two 15-minute halves and a 5-minute half-time. All tied games will stand. No overtimes during the regular season. During the last 2-minutes of the second half, the game clock will stop on all dead balls. During the first half and first 13-minutes of the second half, only officials and team time-outs will stop the clock.
    • Play will be ½ court games.
    • Players will referee themselves.
    • Teams are allowed 1time-outs per half. Time-outs last 1-minute and do not carry over.
    • An unsportsmanlike technical foul will result in an immediate ejection from the game. The player must leave the gym. Two technical fouls during the season will result in an ejection from the league.
    • A 30-point mercy rule will be in effect after 10-minutes in the second half.
    • Substitutes must report to the scorer's table and be called in by the officials. Illegal substitutions will result in a technical.
    • Fighting will result in an immediate ejection from the league and suspension from Intramural Athletics. Fighting will also result in disciplinary action by the College and the Vice-President of Student Affairs.

Player Conduct


Intramural Athletics are for the fun and enjoyment of everyone, including referees and spectators.

    • Team Captains are responsible for the conduct of their team and spectators.
    • Only team captains or designated coach may question referees or supervisors during play.
    • Acts of unsportsmanlike conduct including: unnecessary roughness, arguing with the referees, supervisors, or opponents will result in an immediate ejection and technical foul. Two ejections will result in a suspension from the league.
    • Ejected players will sever a 1 game suspension prior to returning to play. Other penalties may include: probation or suspension from Intramural Athletics.
    • Ejected players must leave the gymnasium for the remainder of the game.

Miscellaneous

    • All players must present their MCCC ID prior to the start of the game.
    • All players must enter their name, ID number and jersey number on the sign in sheet prior to entering the game.
    • Players arriving late are responsible for signing in.
    • No player can sign-in after half-time has ended.
    • All fans must remain out of play and away from the scorer's table.
    • No shooting of baskets while teams are playing.
    • The Intramural Office does not provide insurance and assumes no responsibility for injuries occurring during Intramural Sports. For Health insurance information contact Health Services in College Hall 221.
    • All injuries no matter how minor must be reported to the scorer's table.

Playoffs

    • All teams who complete the exhibition rounds will play in the single elimination tournament. Teams with 2 forfeits are not eligible.
    • Seeding is based on a blind draw.
