Mrs. Dickert has been a member of the College’s faculty since 1973. As a founding member of the Dental Hygiene Program, she has taught and advised every one of the College’s 592 Dental Hygiene alumni. Phyllis is also responsible for founding Beta Zeta, the College’s chapter of the Sigma Phi Alpha national honor society for dental hygiene students.
Students and fellow faculty members have long recognized Phyllis for her use of case-based education as a teaching tool and for being an early adopter of technology both inside and outside the classroom. During her sabbatical, Phyllis learned how to incorporate intra-oral photography into the teaching and learning process, elements that are now fully integrated into the Dental Hygiene curriculum.
In recognition for all of her achievements and contributions to the College and the dental hygiene profession, Phyllis was recognized with the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award during Commencement 2008. The recipient of this award is selected by current and retired faculty, students and administrators using criteria from the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation.
