Nursing Major
Class Of 2010
Nassau, Bahamas
Having been born and raised in one of the beautiful islands of the Bahamas, my transition from high school into college was not a direct and immediate one. I decided to go into the work force and was employed full-time as an office assistant. I worked full time during the day and at night took evening college courses. Within two years experience of working at an architectural engineering firm, my position at the firm was then moved up to administrative role. This meant more responsibilities, which was a great challenge but it did not allow much time for my school work. Though soon, I was presented a scholarship opportunity which allowed me to study full time overseas. Though leaving my home and family was an emotional ordeal, I knew that my education and my ultimate goal of studying medicine would be worth it in the long run. People often ask me why did I choose to leave such a beautiful, tropical country to come to Pennsylvania; though in response I would laugh and smile and dread the winters, but because of the wonderful people and experiences I've encountered here, I'm glad I made the decision to move, and it helps I get to visit home twice a year on school breaks.
