Fine Arts Center
The building has become alive with students and the programs are filled to capacity with classes in ceramics, printmaking, drawing and painting. The new ceramics lab now offers Raku in addition to traditional firing processes and the expanded printmaking facility now employs the use of non-toxic chemicals in lieu of those normally used. This change is in keeping with the College’s commitment to a sustainable learning environment.
The students and instructors are extremely pleased with the new facility which offers "state of the art everything," with computers and projectors in each room and the multi-storied open air art gallery as "a real showcase." Art classrooms feature large studio spaces, two stories high with floor to ceiling windows providing the students with an abundance of available ambient light. The building is divided into two wings with the gallery in the center. One wing focuses on the messy arts of painting and ceramics, while the clean arts side houses the computer graphics, digital photography, dark room and art history space.
As the students settle in, the Fine Arts Center’s capacity will continue to increase with wood working and metal works classes offered in fall 2009 as well as continuing education offerings in jewelry making.
