ESL/International Student Support Services

Clubs

International Club

The International Club was established to provide a support group for International and ESL students.  One of the goals is to help students adjust to a different cultural and academic environment.  Many students come to MCCC with no family or contacts in the immediate college area. Meeting staff and other MCCC students in a group setting helps establish relationships, friendships, and the sharing of other cultures. This provides a connection to the college and an opportunity to obtain and provide information and support for each other.  The meetings can be an arena where students can discuss differences and similarities in their home and host environment and any concerns regarding their academic and cultural experiences here at MCCC.

International Club activities will serve to enhance knowledge and understanding of the American culture and the academic system for International /ESL students and will help expose all MCCC students to a world view of other cultures.  Exposure to others facilitates communication, understanding and sharing that helps promote unity among all groups.

Hola

The MCCC HOLA Student Club acts as a support group and a welcoming committee for other Spanish Speaking Students.  CLUB membership is open to all students. The majority are students who are form Spanish speaking countries, some are English as a Second Language students and others are International students. Another part of the Club mission is to perform community service. Last semester they volunteered to assist as translators for ESL parents at student conferences in a local elementary school. During the spring semester in April the Club members will participate in a High School conference where other colleges will be promoting their school clubs.

The HOLA Club is open to all MCCC students with an interest in sharing life experiences, promoting cultural understanding and diversity, and giving back to their community.
