Placement Testing

All new students admitted to MCCC are required to take the placement tests in English, Mathematics and Reading. Only the students who have an associate, bachelor or a master degree from a US university or a college may be exempt from the placement testing. TOEFL test is not required to enroll MCCC and students will not be exempt from the ESL Placement testing based on their TOEFL scores.

There is a specific English as a Second Language (LOEP test) for English as a second Language students.

English as a Second Language Placement Testing

The ESL Placement test has two parts.

  1. Essay:  Students will be asked to write a paragraph within 35 minutes about a given topic. There will be a choice of three topics.
  2. LOEP computerized English as a Second language Placement Test covers 3 different areas.
    • Reading comprehension
    • Grammar skills
    • Language Usage

The LOEP Placement test is not timed.

Retesting

Students are allowed to take the tests twice before they start taking classes. Once students start taking an ESL class, the placement testing can not be taken.

Test Results

The placement test results will be sent to students within a week after completion of the testing. After the final results, students should contact an ESL advisor in the Student Success Center to register for classes.
