Can I get Financial Aid to pay for the trip?

Yes, you may be eligible for Financial Aid. Please contact Doug Vore at 215-641-6563 in the MCCC Financial Aid Office for more information.

Can I take other courses instead of the SPA 101 or History 107 being offered?

Yes, there is the possibility to take an independent study with one of the professors participating in the program. Contact Oscar Cabrera at ocabrera@mc3.edu for more information.

Will participants have free time to explore Madrid on their own?

Yes, classes are usually held Monday through Thursday between 9:00 and 1:00 PM. Unless you are attending a planned excursion, you are free to explore Madrid at your leisure.

How much spending money should I bring?

The costs of food and other personal expenses are not included in the quoted price. It depends on how many times you eat out, you should plan to spend around 35 dollars a day ($1000 for the month) Note: This amount is only a suggestion. You may need more or less money depending on your personal needs.

Can I stay in Europe after the program is over?

Yes, there is the possibility of staying in Europe and coming back to the US on your own. Arrangements must be made before leaving the US. Please be aware that you are completely responsible for making your own flight and hotel arrangements and for any extra expenses incurred while making any changes to the trip.

Can I visit other cities or countries on my own while in Spain?

Yes, unless the group is touring the south of Spain, you will have some free weekends to visit other cities or countries. All incurred expenses are your sole responsibility.

What kind of apartment will I be staying in?

You will share an apartment with one other person. Apartments are comfortably furnished.

Can I choose my roommate?

Yes, before leaving the US, we will ask you to suggest a roommate. We will try to honor your request, but rooming with the person you have requested is not guaranteed. For example, if we have an odd number of students, you may be asked to room with a person from another group.

How safe is Madrid?

Madrid is as safe as any other European or US city. Before leaving for Spain, additional information on how to stay safe and have a positive experience will be provided.

Will there be a lot of walking?

Yes. Although a metro pass will be provided to use in Madrid, often, there is a considerable amount of walking from the metro station to the specific location you want to get. Also, some cities that we will visit, for example Toledo, do not allow busses in the city. The bus will drop us off just outside the city walls. Most museums, palaces, churches and other historical sites do not have elevators or escalators.

Can I refill my prescriptions in Spain?

No, your US doctor's prescription will not be honored in Spain. It is best to bring enough medicine from the US. In an emergency, you will have to see a doctor in Spain and you will be able to buy a prescription then. You can, however, buy over-the-counter medication.
