Compact Fluorescent LampsCompact Fluorescent Lamp

So, how would you like to join us and get something for nothing ?

What would you say if there was an energy saving device that could save you 75% of typical operating costs, could last almost ten times longer than its counterpart, would reduce greenhouse gas emissions and wouldn’t cost you a thing to try?

Thanks to a generous grant from the Montgomery County Community College Foundation, the College is offering you an opportunity to do just that!

A FREE compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) is now available to the first 1,000 applicants.

What is a CFL? A CFL is a lamp which produces an equivalent amount of light to an incandescent bulb (the filament type of bulb, typically used in most homes). The CFL, however, consumes 75% less energy. It’s not something in the CFL bulb that make it efficient. It’s something that’s not in it! CFLs do not contain a filament and therefore are less prone to failure. By using less wattage, they produce less heat which is safer for your home and they last up to ten times longer than their incandescent counterparts.

As part of the College’s commitment to environmental responsibility, this effort will help our students and staff to keep green principals ‘top of mind’ at home or work and that sometimes the simplest changes can make a significant impact.

The distribution of 1,000 CFL’s has the potential (if only used 3 hours per day) of reducing CO2 emissions by almost 1 million pounds over the life of the lamps.

So what’s the catch? The lamps are not dimmable so they can not be connected to a dimming device. That’s it. That’s the only obstacle to this green initiative.

Please plan on attending one of the following sessions to get important information and recieve your lamp. The form is available at the session or here.
