Building Construction-Electrical

Purpose

Students involved in this course will be eligible to receive a certificate from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). This certificate is recognized nationally by electrical contracting companies looking to hire experienced workers to complete an electrical apprenticeship and eventually become journeyman electricians.

Program Description

In this 72 hour Building Construction 1 program, students will learn how to apply basic construction math in order to measure, cut and install construction materials for building new homes and commercial properties. Student will learn how to use hand tools, power tools and read basic construction drawings to navigate a construction project. Important skills like materials handling, communication and employability skills will be introduced to help a student successfully navigate a construction site. This program typically runs 12 weeks.

This 113 hour Building Construction 2-Electrical Level 1 program provides student with technical knowledge and orientation to the electrical trade such as basic electrical safety, electric circuits and electrical theory. During the class student will receive hands on training in using electrical device boxes, hand bending conduit, raceways and fittings and installing conductors and cables utilizing the National Electric Code as a guide and reference. This program typically runs 19 weeks.

In Building Construction 3 -Electrical Level 2, students will learn intermediate skills that will include topics such as the theory and application of motors, how alternating current works, and electric lighting applications and principals. Students will be provided hands-on experiences installing conductors used in commercial applications using pull and junction boxes. Students will also learn how to use the National Electrical code to size conductors and how to apply important grounding and bonding devices to ensure that devices are safe for the occupants of homes and businesses. This program typically runs 25 weeks.

Primary Goals

Upon completion of the programs, students will have learned basic to intermediate skills used in commercial electrical installations and how to use the National Electrical Code.

Consideration for Industry Certification
