Purpose
The Medical Office Technologist program will prepare students for employment in medical and healthcare related office administration and provide students with the basic skills needed to code and bill physician procedures.
Program Description
This 159-hour program will prepare student to support both the backend and front end medical office. Students will be taught the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using CPT and ICD-9 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. They will learn proper use of the coding systems that are integral to medical reimbursement CPT, ICD-9-CM and HCPCS. Students will learn customer service skills, administrative and support functions needed by medical front offices and will be taught Word processing and spreadsheet skills at expert level in addition to the medical billing software (Medisoft) used for physician billing.
Primary Goals
Students will be prepared for entry-level employment in the medical and other healthcare related offices and provide students the basic skills need to code and bill physician procedures.
Consideration for Industry Certification
Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam, as well be prepared to take the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification.
