Pharmacy Technician

Purpose

The skills learned while taking this program prepare the student for the National Pharmacy Technician Certification exam and to obtain entry-level positions in the retail and pharmacy industry.

Program Description

This program prepares students for the occupation of Pharmacy Technician in a competitive economy. This program also prepares students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification to work in the retail and pharmacy location. After this program, the student will be able to assist pharmacists at an entry level, as well as understand all aspects of the retail, home infusion, mail order and institutional care pharmacy industry. Successful completion consists of attending the 55 program hours, completing home work assignments, and passing the midterm and final examinations. This 55-hour program usually is 11 weeks in length and meets two evenings a week for 2.5 hours each evening.

Primary Goals

The skills developed through this program apply to retail and pharmacy locations. After this program, the student will be able to assist pharmacists at an entry level, prepares the student for the Pharmacy Technician Certification exam, and prepares Pharmacy Technicians to work in, as well as understand all aspects of the retail, home infusion, mail order, and institutional care pharmacy industry. Successful completion consists of attendance, completing home work assignments, and passing the midterm and final examinations.

Consideration for Industry Certification

Upon successful completion of the program, student can take the Pharmacy Technician Certification exam to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPT).

PREREQUISITE: Knowledge of basic math skills.

Recognition of Completion: Successful completion consists of attending the 55-hour program, completing home work assignments, and successfully passing a mid term and final examination. A certificate of completion and grade sheet from Montgomery County Community College will be awarded upon successful completion of this program.
