Curriculum

Act 120 (Basic) Training

A comprehensive, 772-hour program designed to prepare an individual for certification to practice law enforcement within the state of Pennsylvania. This training is mandatory for anyone wishing to become a police officer.

Basic Training

Defensive Tactics (44 hrs) Operation of Patrol Vehicles (40 hrs)
Motor Vehicle Law Enforcement (56 hrs) Report Writing (8 hrs)
Motor Vehicle Collision Investig. (21 hrs) Case Presentation (20 hrs)
Patrol Procedure and Operations (73 hrs) First Aid/CPR (56 hrs)
Criminal Investigation (62 hrs) Handling Arrested Persons (32 hrs)

Additional hours are for testing.

Note: Students successfully completing ACT 120 training and who enroll in MCCC's Criminal Justice Program may be eligible to receive up to 15 academic credits toward the completion of the Associate Degree program in Criminal Justice at Montgomery County Community College. Act 180 (Mandatory In-Service) Training

This 12-hour program is exclusively for sworn law enforcement officers on active duty. Training is offered annually and covers changes in criminal and vehicle law and other elective courses provided by the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (M.P.O.E.T.C.). All active-duty police officers must complete this training each year to maintain their certification.
