Lab Procedures for Medical Assistants (MAS 121)

This comprehensive course introduces the student to the purpose, techniques and recording of diagnostic laboratory procedures commonly performed in the medical office. Subjects covered include general laboratory techniques, phlebotomy, specimen collection, handling and processing, diagnostic testing and performing hematology, chemistry, microbiology and immunology testing. Course specific competency evaluations must be successfully completed by the student.

Prerequisites

The following courses must be taken prior to this course
Complete the College placement test in English and place above the developmental level.
Complete the College placement test in Reading and place above the developmental level.
Complete the College placement test in Mathematics and place at or above MAT 011.

Corequisites

The following courses must be taken along side this course
BIO 103 Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology. May be taken prior or during course.
MAS 113 Clinical Assisting Procedures I. May be taken prior or during course.
