NCECA Post Conference 2018
Montgomery County Community College Arts and Humanities program and the Ceramics Club is proud to host a two-day Post Conference for the 2018 National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) on March 19 and 20, 2018.
Featuring three nationally renowned artist potters, and a traveling exhibition, this exceptional event is free, and the community is invited to attend and participate.
Ceramic arts workshop
Artist potters, Lisa Orr, Mike Helke and Simon Levin, will be doing demonstrations throughout the two-day event. Held in the Science Center Theatre on Central Campus in Blue Bell, the workshop runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 19 and 20. Visitors are encouraged to stop by and observe!
On Monday, March 19, we welcome keynote speaker, Roberto Lugo, a Philadelphia artist, who describes himself as "...a potter, activist, culture-maker, rapper, poet, and educator."
In addition to the two-day workshop, Artstream Nomadic Gallery and the Artstream Ceramic Library outreach project will be on-campus.
Parked on the quad, the Artstream Nomadic Gallery, a traveling exhibition housed in a restored 1967 Airstream trailer, the gallery features the artwork of 26 nationally recognized and emerging studio potters and includes a wide-range of styles, aesthetics and techniques found in contemporary ceramics.
Borrow hand-made cups
An extension of the Artstream Nomadic Gallery, the Artstream Ceramic Library is a social outreach project. The project’s mission is to connect contemporary functional ceramics with a variety of people. The Ceramic Library loans out unique handmade ceramic cups created by 13 well-known artists. Borrowers agree to use the cups in some type of artistic manner—music, video, visual art—and then to photographs of the cups in use and share them with the Ceramic Library. Check out the project in Brendlinger Library, College Hall, during the month of March 2018.
If you cannot attend in person, the workshop will be livestreamed both nationally and internationally.
We will post all Post Conference related information on National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) website. Add to the conversation on social media using #nceca2018 and #montcocc.
