Day 4 – From the center of North America to Oil Drilling in North Dakota
The day began leisurely crossing the border from Minnesota to North Dakota (ND). Northern ND is empty and flat, but provides beautiful vistas and some interesting physical features, the work of glaciers, west of Minot. The geographic center of North America is in Rugby which is rather exciting if you are a geographer. Further west I found an old schoolhouse. Once you go west of Tagus, ND you start seeing oil rigs. Two years ago this was a booming, but with the price of oil dropping it has slowed down. I am spending the night in Williston, ND in a room that two years ago went for $1000 a week, I got it for one night at $50.
