The Accounting Specialty Certificate is intended for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in another discipline who are eager to start a career in accounting. You'll collaborate with the Accounting Program Coordinator to develop a personalized course plan tailored to your goals.
This program is a great way to meet the education requirements for a CPA. To obtain a CPA in Pennsylvania, candidates must meet the following three education requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in any subject
- At least a total of 24 credits of accounting and auditing, business law, economics, technology, finance, or tax subjects
- An additional 12 credits in accounting and auditing subjects or tax subjects*
The Accounting Program Coordinator will review your transcripts to identify any courses that meet the above requirements and recommend a course plan to fill any gaps. What is a Specialty Certificate?
Specialty Certificate's are designed for experienced students who wish to gain an in-depth expertise in a specific field by pursuing an individually designed intense course of study of at least 18 credits.
To qualify for this program, you must have completed at least 30 credits of approved
collegiate study in a discipline other than the one for which the Specialty Certificate
is
sought. In consultation with the appropriate Discipline Coordinator, a minimum 18
credit
sequence of courses to be taken at Montgomery County Community College will be designed.
Final approval of your Specialty Certificate program and review of qualifying collegiate
transcripts will be made by the appropriate Division Chair.
