Fast-Track IT Programs

By Brenda Lange

Long known as a leader in training for careers in Information Technology, Montgomery County Community College's Workforce Development Division has added programs meant to help our students find not just jobs, but lucrative and rewarding careers in a field where new technologies appear regularly. Within the next decade, rapid growth in the number of jobs and potential salaries will continue to mark the field of information technology, especially within cyber security, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Learn to protect and secure computer networks from hackers and intruders through Montco’s 26-week Cybersecurity Engineer training. Or take the 16-week Cybersecurity Analyst program, which will lead to jobs such as a Level One Analyst at a Security Operations Center, monitoring network traffic, searching for and investigating cyberattacks.

Information Technology (IT) is an industry that is constantly changing, requiring individuals to learn new skills and competencies. In many cases, today’s students are training to become information security analysts who will plan and implement security measures that protect an organization’s computer networks and systems. They often work for consulting firms, corporations, computer companies or within other industries. As of May 2017, the median salary for such a position hovered just under $100,000.

Executive Director of Workforce Development Jim Fox explains, “Montgomery County Community College’s Fast-Track to Employment programs are different from standard academic programs in that they are designed to get an industry credential so our students can start a career fast.  In about six months or less, students can learn what they need to get a high paying, in-demand job.  They are perfect for career changers, the unemployed or underemployed and enrollment is easy.  Classes begin in August, so our students will be ready for a new IT career by early 2019.”

Additional programming at Montco also offers pathways to other well-paying jobs:

  • Montco’s Software Developer Academy runs courses on C++, Python and other programming and scripting languages.
  • Computer Networking Engineer/Technician programs train students to design, configure, implement and troubleshoot networks that are essential to daily life such as office work, online banking and shopping, and social media.
  • Learn more about The Internet of Things, which is revolutionizing most industries by connecting devices, appliances, homes and anything to the network to remotely control and operate them.

The amounts of data produced in today’s world is growing every day, and it all needs to be organized, stored, analyzed and retrieved when it’s needed. Starting a career in the database industry by earning a Certificate in Database Administration or advancing your current career through our Crunching Bag Data with Hadoop course may be the right professional path for you.

Montgomery County Community College is the destination for quality IT training leading to well-paying employment through on-campus and onsite training tailored to individual needs—whether you are a recent high school graduate, changing jobs or upgrading skill sets or a company that wants to train your employees.
