Alvernia University joins Montgomery County Community College (MCCC)’s University Center partnership of higher education institutions to expand advanced-degree opportunities for students, employees and community members. The agreement was signed and announced at MCCC’s Blue Bell campus on Tuesday, July 25.
“The addition of MCCC as a partner through their University Center expands our commitment to affordable and accessible education in the Philadelphia Region," said Alvernia University President, Glynis A. Fitzgerald, Ph.D. “Together with MCCC, we will provide more students with the opportunity to complete their degree and achieve their goals while successfully balancing life's demands. We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to growing this relationship over time.”
Alvernia is offering a total of 12 online programs, including eight bachelor’s degree programs, three master’s degree programs and one certificate program through the partnership. MCCC alumni and employees are eligible for a 20% tuition discount if they meet all admissions requirements.
“This collaboration with Alvernia University, coupled with our existing University Center partners, provides our students, alumni, employees and communities with affordable, convenient pathways to continue their education and accomplish their personal goals and career aspirations,” said Dr. Victoria L. Bastecki-Perez, MCCC President. “This is another example of how MCCC transforms lives, destinies and future generations.”
The partnership with Alvernia provides affordable tuition, an accelerated format, convenient scheduling and a supportive environment for all students, especially working adults from the Montgomery County community. The programs are available for full-time and part-time students.
“MCCC was an obvious choice for a partnership in the Philadelphia area, which we've been in for decades,” said Alvernia University Vice President for Graduate & Adult Education, Gaetan T. Giannini, Ed.D. “In addition, the adult learner is important to our success in the future. There are more than 30 million Americans that have some college credit, but no credential and we've got the ability to help close that gap through partnerships like this. In doing that, we also understand the importance of affordability and meeting students where they are, so we've expanded our footprint to be in the place where students need to study.”
MCCC’s University Center offers advanced degrees – bachelor’s, master’s and certifications - on its Blue Bell and Pottstown campuses and online through its collaborations with Alvernia University, Albright College and Chestnut Hill College.
“More than ever in today’s rapidly evolving world, continuous learning is vital for career advancement and personal growth,” said Dr. Chae Sweet, MCCC Vice President of Academic Affairs. “Thanks to our University Center partners and their programs, MCCC can offer numerous options for learners to earn advanced degrees, often in accelerated formats.”
