While it may feel like winter has only just begun outside, signs of blossoming spring and a celebration of new life in nature will soon be on display inside at Montgomery County Community College.

MCCC’s Montco Cultural Center will host the art exhibit “Renewal: Zvezdana Stojmirovic (aka Ana Stoy)” Tuesday, Jan. 20, through Sunday, March 5, 2026, in the Theater Gallery of the Science Center building on the College’s Blue Bell Campus, 1313 Morris Road, Blue Bell, PA 19422.

An opening reception and artist’s talk is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29 from 5-7 p.m. with the artist’s talk beginning at 6 p.m. The event and gallery are free and open to all and parking is free. For full details, visit the Cultural Events landing page

“Ana Stoy’s “Renewal” series features nine large-format oil paintings of landscapes and nature found adjacent to Route 202,” said Patrick Rodgers, Manager of the Montco Cultural Center. “These are keen observations of the beautiful, chaotic natural world that surrounds us and is all to easy to take for granted.  But Ana’s large canvases and lively technique provide a feast of detail to explore.”

With “Renewal,” Stoy said she looked to capture “the cycles that happen in nature but also happen within us on a yearly basis as we follow nature’s patterns and our lives unfold.”

“My hope is this work depicts very microlocal motifs that will encourage viewers to let their minds free associate,” she said. “In today’s time, there’s a palpable need to renew interest in the arts. In the hyper-digitized world we live in, looking at work that’s been produced by hand, and coming together in a gallery to ponder on what you’re seeing and experiencing, is very much needed. It’s renewing something that may be lost in the churn of technological advancement and the post-pandemic world we live in.”

Stoy said she hoped viewers would be able to appreciate the exhibition’s tribute to beauty hidden in plain sight.

Stojmirovic is a North Wales-based painter, who received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art and a master’s degree in fine arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). In 1994, she completed the Independent Study Program of The Whitney Museum of American Art. Solo exhibitions include Momenta Art, The Gallery at Brooklyn Public Library and Chamber, all in New York City, as well as The Student Cultural Centre and KC Grad in her native Belgrade, Serbia, according to her website.

Stojmirovic’s work has been supported by grants from the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts and the Lucas and Brenner funds at MICA. Stojmirovic has a background in design. For 20 years, she was an award-winning professor at MICA, most recently as associate dean of undergraduate studies, before achieving emeritus status in 2023.

The Montco Cultural Center Theater Gallery is open Monday-Thursday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Gallery is closed on Saturday and Sunday, unless there is a performance in the theater.
