On April 15, Tiya Townes, Maliqa Jack and Ah’niyah Rome became the first graduates of the new Nurse Aide Training Program held at Montgomery County Community College’s West Campus in Pottstown.

The program serves as an entrance point for people to join the health care field. The program teaches the skills and techniques needed to succeed as a Certified Nurse Aide. Students learn safety and emergency procedures, as well as personal care and communication skills, in order to properly interact with and advocate for patients.

Townes, Jack and Rome each have ambitions to work in the health care field and joined the Nurse Aide Training Program to further their education and reach their goals. They will all be taking their State Competency Examination in South Hall at MCCC’s West Campus in May. After completing the program, all three women intend to continue their education at MCCC.

Tiya Townes, of Pottstown, graduated from the Nurse Aide Training program with honors and has been offered two potential opportunities for employment. Townes plans to further her education at MCCC in the Registered Nurse program, with a goal of becoming a nurse practitioner.

Maliqa Jack, of Pottstown, was happy to work with professors in the program who were supportive and prepared to help her succeed. Jack was offered a position as a home health aide, and she plans to further her education. She would like to take the necessary classes at MCCC to become a mid-wife.

Ah’niyah Rome, of Pottstown, was working as a home health aide with the goal of becoming a Certified Nurse Aide, when she enrolled in the program at MCCC. Rome has been offered employment at two different facilities and intends to continue her nursing education at MCCC.

Successful completion of the Nurse Aide Training Program through MCCC prepares students to take the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Competency Examination and enroll in the Nurse Aide Registry for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The next session of the Nurse Aide Training Program begins on May 13 in South Hall on MCCC’s West Campus in Pottstown. The program runs for five weeks for a total of 21 days. Classes are held Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students perform clinical education at the Frederick Living Retirement Community in Frederick.
