Montgomery County Community College will be relaunching its Issues & Insights panel discussion series this spring with a discussion on how the media is redefining what it means to be a man in today’s digital era.

Join MCCC for the dynamic panel, “Issues & Insights Spring 2026: The Manosphere Exposed (Gender, Media, and Modern Masculinities)” Wednesday, March 4 at 1 p.m. in the theater at Montco Cultural Center, Science Center Building, Blue Bell Campus, 1313 Morris Road, Blue Bell, PA 19422. The event is free and open to all and parking is free. A livestream will be available at the Pottstown Campus in North Hall 220.

Sean Weaver, MCCC Faculty Diversity Fellow in English, will moderate the panel, which will include Garvey Lundy, MCCC Sociology Professor; Chera Watson, MCCC Assistant Professor of Mass Media and Sound Production; and Colleen A. Clemens, English Professor at Kutztown University.

“This discussion will explore the intersection of gender politics and digital media through the lens of the ‘Manosphere,’” said Sanket Desai, History Associate Professor and Lecture Series Liaison. “Speakers will analyze the rhetoric and reach of male-centric online subcultures, investigating how modern masculinities are constructed, commodified, and radicalized in the digital age. The event aims to foster a dialogue on media literacy and the evolving definitions of gender in the 21st century.”

Dr. Thomas Kolsky, former MCCC History Professor, started hosting the Issues & Insights lecture series in 1986, although it did not officially take that name until 1999. The program’s purpose was to stimulate discussions about diverse topics, to invite the larger community to participate in an exchange of ideas and to share the academic talent of MCCC’s faculty as well as guest speakers.

Throughout the years, the programs covered a vast range of topics with more than 100 individual events. Some of the topics included:  "The Modern Jewish Experience," "Focus on the Middle East," "The Reign of Error: The Marriage of Humor and Politics," "Vietnam and Iraq Wars Compared," "The Immigration Question," "Millennial Reflections 1999-2000," "Tony Auth on Cartoons," "Gibson's The Passion of the Christ," and "September 11, 2001," among others.
