On behalf of Montgomery County Community College and its commitment to sustainability, Dr. Victoria Bastecki-Perez, MCCC's interim president, spoke at a recent press conference to help launch the "422 My Way" campaign to find creative solutions to reduce traffic congestion along the Route 422 corridor.

Since 2010, MCCC has collaborated with the Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association to provide a campus shuttle for students and employees between its West Campus in Pottstown and its Central Campus in Blue Bell.

Over the years, ridership on the campus shuttle continues to increase. In 2017-18, students and employees used the shuttle for 7,800 rides. Last year, in 2018-19, the number of rides increased to 10,100.

Each shuttle transports up to 20 persons, which removes 19 vehicles from the Route 422 corridor during rush hour traffic, helping to alleviate congestion. In 2018-19, the shuttle reduced the number of miles traveled on the roadways by 323,000 miles, which is a reduction of 360 metric tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

GVF has been a valuable partner for the College, not only with managing the shuttle service, but also serving on MCCC's Sustainability Council and helping the College with public transportation needs with SEPTA.
