As a creative way to honor the inauguration of Dr. Victoria L. Bastecki-Perez as Montgomery County Community College’s sixth president, Patrick Rodgers, MCCC Galleries Director, presented an oil painting created by alumnus Jackson Moyer during a special Zoom presentation on April 13.
Dr. Bastecki-Perez was delighted and honored to receive the artwork, which will be displayed in the president’s office on the Blue Bell Campus.
“What a beautiful piece. I am honored to accept this. As you know, I am a staunch supporter of the arts and the transformational effect it can have on the human experience,” Dr. Bastecki-Perez said. “I am so honored to don that piece as a daily reminder to me, my teams and everyone who visits the office about the talent of our student body as well as the passion and commitment of our faculty to inspire this creativity and innovation so our students will have brighter futures. Thank you so much everyone – this is a meaningful piece for me and I will forever treasure it.”
The 24x36-inch oil painting, “Twilight Landscape,” features a farmhouse in a rural setting. Rodgers explained that the artist used a palette knife on the canvas to create the texture and lighting effects.
“Jackson is a phenomenally talented artist,” Rodgers said. “He was a student who was really talented but rather quiet when he first got to Montco. He worked really well with our faculty and he made friends among the other students in his cohort and produced some really amazing pieces, particularly paintings. This was one of them, which he made at the end of his second year in 2018.”
Moyer is now a senior at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and he has built an “incredible portfolio of digital illustrations and paintings,” Rodgers explained. His artwork will be on display at PAFA’s upcoming student exhibition starting May 14 through June 6.
Following the artwork presentation, Rodgers shared a sneak peek of MCCC’s 54th Annual Student Art Exhibition, which will open online starting May 3. The exhibit will feature the artwork of students from their summer and fall 2020 and spring 2021 classes.
