Montgomery County Community College's new Sterile Processing Technician Program will equip students with the specialized skills needed for sterile processing roles in hospital and surgical settings.

Montgomery County Community College (MCCC), in collaboration with Pottstown Hospital, is starting a new Sterile Processing Technician Program to prepare students for in-demand roles within the healthcare industry. Combining comprehensive classroom instruction with hands-on clinical training, the program is designed to equip students with the specialized skills needed for sterile processing roles in hospital and surgical settings.

“This important new program offers a clear, accessible pathway to a rewarding healthcare career, while also supporting our community health and workforce needs,” said Rosann Bar, Dean of Academic Innovation.

Participants will gain expertise in sterilization processing techniques, decontamination procedures, processing of reusable instrumentation and aseptic techniques. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam, a nationally recognized credential offered by Healthcare Sterile Processing Association.

The program will be held at Pottstown Hospital and begins with a lecture component from June 16 through Oct. 16. Students will then begin the 400-hour clinical externship at the Hospital under the supervision of Bernard Boyd, Sterile Processing Manager. The program concludes on Dec. 31.

The opportunity is ideal for high school graduates (ages 17 and older), college students pursuing healthcare careers and adults seeking to reskill or transition into the healthcare field.

The total cost is only $2,000 with additional textbook and exam fees of $135 and $140, respectively. Students are required to wear comfortable, slip-resistant shoes. No other equipment is necessary. Hospital laundered scrubs will be provided for students to wear and will be returned at the end of each day of the externship training.
