The Maguire Foundation recently awarded a $12,000 grant to Montgomery County Community College through the MCCC Foundation to extend its Maguire Scholars Program at the College.

The goal of the Maguire Scholars Program is to support and enrich students by providing an opportunity for an excellence education, according to its website. The Maguire Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 2000 that is committed to providing educational opportunities, supporting the arts and humanities and alleviating hunger and homelessness. The Maguire Foundation forges partnerships with middle schools, high schools and colleges and universities.

MCCC has partnered with the Maguire Foundation since 2008, bringing the Maguire Scholars Program to its students. The current award is an extension of a grant awarded in 2020 in the amount of $12,000.

To qualify, scholarship recipients must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be an active participant in school and/or the community and have an expected family contribution of $0 to 25,000, according the Maguire Foundation’s website.

In addition, Maguire scholars at MCCC can continue their education with certain four-year partner institutions and take their Maguire scholarships with them.

The Maguire Foundation also has awarded funds to the Gateway to College Program at MCCC. The Gateway to College Program, part of the Achieving the Dream national network, helps students stay on track to complete the requirements they need for their high school diploma and earn college credits. Since MCCC launched the program in 2013 at its Blue Bell and Pottstown campuses, 231 students have earned their high school diplomas.

Established in 1983, the Montgomery County Community College Foundation provides scholarships for deserving students, grants for faculty projects, equipment and technology, emergency funds for students in need, support for cultural enrichment activities on campus and financial resources for other college programs and activities. The Foundation is able to make a difference in the lives of students thanks to the generosity of alumni, parents, community friends, private foundations and corporations.
