A future Montgomery County Community College Nursing  student got some exciting news during her high school graduation ceremony recently. When she enrolls at the College for the fall 2026 semester, it will be on a two-year, full-tuition scholarship.

Kylie Eickhoff, 17, of Willow Grove, was presented with The Montgomery County Community College Full Tuition Scholarship during The Anderson School’s graduation ceremony June 12.

“I am absolutely ecstatic. When I first learned I’d received the scholarship at graduation, I was crying. It will be a huge help,” said Eickhoff. “I was going to pay for college on my own and was stressed about being able to afford it. The scholarship took a huge weight off my shoulders. It feels amazing.”

For 18 years, the College has awarded the scholarship, which covers full tuition and fees, to an Anderson School senior set to graduate and enroll as at MCCC. The student is someone who the school believes has demonstrated academic improvement, leadership skills, good citizenship and has served as a role model for others. It is the only full-tuition scholarship the College offers.

In her essay to apply for the scholarship, Eickhoff focused on when she was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 6 and was in treatment for more than two years. The disease coupled with personal family issues made it the most difficult time of her life, she said. It also is the catalyst for why she wants to become a nurse.

“The whole reason I want to be a nurse is to help people. My empathy comes from that time period in my life,” she said. “I’m not the only person who has gone through difficult challenges in life, but  all I want to do is help people and be there for people. This scholarship actualized my dreams.”

Dr. Michael Harcum, MCCC Director of Admissions, was in attendance for The Anderson School graduation ceremony in order to present the scholarship to Eickhoff and called it a great feeling.

“I think it’s always a pleasure to see our community partners put their mission statements into action,” he said. “For example, the Anderson School empowers students to know they matter to the world and are able to succeed in life through academic achievement, positive relationships, self-regulation, and self-advocacy. What better way to do this but by partnering with the local community college? Amid soaring higher education costs, this collaboration provides immense financial relief and proves the College's dedication to our community.”

The Anderson School, located in Eagleville and part of the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, accepts students in 7th-12th grades and was designed to create a learning environment that meets the academic, emotional/social and therapeutic requirements of students in need of extra support. Students who attend The Anderson School are identified and referred by their school districts.

Christine Raber, Principal of The Anderson School, congratulated Eickhoff on her scholarship and said the award was going to a deserving student.

“Kylie is a student who has been through a lot in her life. She had significant medical challenges when she was young, which she was able to overcome. She’s very driven and motivated to do well,” said Raber. “She loves to help other people and that’s why she wants to go into the healthcare field. She has very good attention to detail. She wants to do well. The full tuition scholarship will have an enormous impact. It will allow her to be independent and spread her wings.”

The Montgomery County Community College Full Tuition Scholarship is just one of over 500 scholarships offered to students each year.
