Nine Montgomery County Community College students soon will be attending Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., through the Bucknell Community College Scholars Program.

Six of the students, Mouaz Alhindi of Horsham, Pa.; Adrian Grow of Collegeville, Pa.; Arjina Islam of Lansdale, Pa.; Jessica Morris Stoltz of Perkasie, Pa.; Nichole Romano of East Norriton, Pa.; and Sara Wilkerson of King of Prussia, Pa., will participate in Bucknell’s Summer 2017 Residency Program.

During the summer program, selected students enroll in two courses and work with student and faculty mentors for six weeks. The program is free for the students and includes tuition, room and board and books. Participating students then have the opportunity to apply to Bucknell, and if accepted, can transfer to the University with junior status on full-tuition scholarships.

Three of the students who participated in last year’s summer program—Alexis Colon of Souderton, Pa.; Stephanie Harper of Warminster, Pa.; and Sarah Wochele of Phoenixville, Pa.—were selected to transfer to the University in the fall as juniors on full-tuition scholarships.
MCCC President Dr. Kevin Pollock said the students' selection into the program was a testament to the strength of the academic programs at the College, and the quality of the faculty.

"I'm fully confident that you will continue your academic success at Bucknell and make us all proud," Dr. Pollock said. "We are incredibly impressed with your academic endeavors."

Wochele, who will have a dual major in consciousness studies and psychology at Bucknell, said she was "beyond thrilled" to have the opportunity to attend Bucknell. For the students attending the summer residency program, she had a bit of advice.

"Bring your passion and leave your ego at home," she said. "I made lifelong friends through this program and I am forever grateful for that."
The Bucknell Community College Scholars Program enables high-achieving, low-income community college students to complete their undergraduate education at the University.

Montgomery County Community College has participated in the Bucknell Community College Scholars Program since 2006. Including this year’s scholars, a total of 65 students attended the summer residency program, 47 have transferred to Bucknell of full-tuition scholarships and 38 have graduated from the University.
