Montgomery County Community College is hosting its 52nd Annual Art Students’ Exhibition featuring original art created by students of the MCCC Fine Arts Program.

Montgomery County Community College is hosting its 52nd Annual Art Students’ Exhibition in Blue Bell, which opened Wednesday, April 10, and continues through Saturday, April 27, at the Fine Arts Center Gallery, Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike.

The exhibition features original art created by students of the MCCC Fine Arts Program. The exhibition includes a full-range of media, including photography, sculptures, oil paintings, digital arts and mixed media. The competition was juried by Pam Regan, owner/gallerist at the Bluestone Fine Art Gallery of Philadelphia.

This year’s Best in Show winner was Mary Elaine Limbert of Norristown for her oil painting, “County Theater.” She received $150 in prize money from the Bella Shen and Lucie S. Lee Art Award through the College’s Foundation. Limbert will attend West Chester University beginning fall 2019.

Best in Painting was awarded to Cheryl Rapp for oil painting, “Melon and Basket.” Best in Drawing was awarded to Kate Stuts for her charcoal drawing, “Making Dinner.” Best in Ceramics was award to Angela Quintero for her stoneware piece, “Blue Vine.” Best in Ceramics for Continuing Education students was awarded to Jeff Wood for his piece, “Shino Vase.” Best in Sculpture was awarded to Jakob Stroup for his piece, “Gazelle.” Best in Printmaking was award to Mandella Reynolds for his untitled collagraph print.

The Greater Norristown Art League Award was awarded to Phuntsok Hogduntsang for his charcoal drawing “Portrait of Grandfather.” Prizes for the student winners were generously donated by North Penn Art, Plaza Art, and the Greater Norristown Art League.

MCCC’s Fine Art Program provides the foundation studies and studio expertise that parallels the first two years of study at a four-year college and enables students to develop their skills and produce a portfolio in the visual arts to obtain employment after earning an associate’s degree. Students may concentrate their studies in subjects including Animation, Ceramics, Drawing, Graphic Design, Illustration, Painting, Photography, Printmaking or Sculpture. 

The Fine Arts Center Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-9:30 p.m., Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The gallery is closed on weekends. Parking is available in the lot at the DeKalb Pike entrance.
