State Rep. Joseph Ciresi spoke at MCCC's West Campus in Pottstown about the tragic events of 9/11, the heroism of the first responders and those who lost their lives.
Montgomery County Community College held a special 9/11 remembrance ceremonies at both Central and West Campuses.
At West Campus, Russell Del Rosario, Director of Campus Safety, led the ceremony with remarks about the tragic events that occurred 18 years ago and the bravery of the first responders. State Rep. Joseph Ciresi spoke about the loss of his brother, Greg Ciresi, who he said died from cancer this year due to being exposed to contaminants at Ground Zero. Pottstown Chief of Police Mick Markovich, Captain Robert Thomas and Officer Christopher Zahorchak also attended the event.
As part of the ceremony, employees lowered the American flag in front of South Hall, and students, employees and visitors placed carnations on the 9/11 memorial garden.
Following the event, the College hosted an American Red Cross Blood Drive and Wellness Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., which was open to the community. Everyone was encouraged to donate blood and write letters of appreciation to military personnel.
At Central Campus, State Rep. Liz Hanbidge, Board of Trustees Chair Frank Custer, Montgomery County Sheriff and MCCC Board of Trustees Member Sean Kilkenny, Interim President Dr. Vicki Bastecki-Perez and MCCC’s Manager of Veterans Services Matthew Benko spoke about the impact of the event, the loss of lives and the courageousness of the first responders.
A special flag ceremony was held while MCCC’s police academy cadets stood in attendance and respect.
