More than 85 students attended Montgomery County Community College’s information session about accounting careers and education on Feb. 10 in the Advanced Technology Center on the Central Campus in Blue Bell.

The keynote speaker was Michael Colgan, CEO and Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He talked about accounting careers, the projected growth for this career path, how to become a Certified Public Accountant, PICPA scholarships, networking opportunities, PICPA student memberships, internships, podcasts and other online resources.  He also encouraged students to consider becoming a MCCC-PICPA student ambassador.

Megan Swick, program administrator for PA CPA Foundations, provided applications for free student PICPA memberships. She also answered questions about becoming the PICPA student ambassador for MCCC.

Brittany Revels, Market Development Associate for Surgent Review Courses, shared information with the students about the review courses for both the Certified Public Accountant Exam and the Certified Management Accountant Exam. Surgent offered a drawing for four CPA or CMA review courses (value of $1,500) for students. The courses have no expiration date so students can take them when they are ready. The winning students are Lauren Knab, Anthony Cruz, Christopher Oldt and Hannah Jorgensen.

Representatives from Albright College had an information table and spoke to students about continuing their education through the University Center, and specifically about earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Albright College on MCCC’s campuses.
