As the temperature begins to drop and the leaves are changing color it must mean fall is here. At Montgomery County Community College, it also means it’s time for the return of the Fall Online Open House.

MCCC Office of Admissions will host the virtual informational event Saturday, Oct. 16 from 10-11 a.m. The event will feature a wide range of opportunities to learn about what MCCC offers its students including flexible schedules, programs, small class sizes, affordable ways to pay for college and transfer opportunities. Attendees will also have a chance to ask questions during live Q&A breakout rooms with faculty and staff.

The event is free and open to the community but registration is required. The open house livestream will be recorded and available for replay for those unable to attend.

To usher in the virtual event, MCCC will also host two, free, pre-open house drive-through events on Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 4-6 p.m. in the South Hall Parking Lot of Pottstown Campus, 101 College Drive, Pottstown, and again Thursday, Oct. 14 from 4-6 p.m. in the Route 202 Parking Lot of Blue Bell Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell. (Rain dates are scheduled for the following week.) Those in attendance for the drive-through events will receive free swag and printed information about the College to prepare them for the online event.

“We are excited about hosting these events because having the drive-through experience gives students a sense of the campus,” said Dr. Michelle Brown-Nevers, Executive Director of Enrollment Management, “and they’ll get materials and information before coming on campus in the winter or spring.”

Hosting both the drive-through events and an online open house gives prospective students an opportunity to experience the College, while being mindful of social distancing, said Michael Harcum, Associate Director of Admissions.

“We pride ourselves on equitable access,” he said. “We want to reach students where they feel safe and comfortable and help them succeed. It’s the same reason why our classes are offered online, on campus and through our hybrid models featuring campus and online courses. It’s also why our open house is virtual again this year but also the drive-through events are a great way to get swag, meet friendly faces and get important information about the College.”

Harcum added that during his recent visit to campus, U.S. Education Sec. Miguel Cardona described Blue Bell Campus as “a gem.”

“He saw firsthand the programs, technology and advanced learning that will be on display during the online open house,” said Harcum. “This event is a great way for you to explore what the Secretary experienced.”

This year’s virtual open house event has been streamlined. Prospective students and their families will still have the opportunity to move through different rooms to have their questions answered, but certain areas of the College will share the same online breakout room, said Brie Kulp, Coordinator of Admissions.

“Admissions, enrollment services and others will all be in one room,” she said.

Harcum noted that in-person campus tours are not part of the online open house events, but are available for those interested in scheduling a tour separately. A video tour of the campus will be presented during the online open house.

The Fall Online Open House offers an excellent opportunity for families to learn more about MCCC.
