Thirteen students and alumni set up shop to promote their goods on Montgomery County Community College’s Blue Bell Campus during the Student and Alumni Small Business Expo.
The event held April 26 in College Hall was a great opportunity for Mustang entrepreneurs to meet and showcase their businesses. Ranging from flavored teas, to scented candles, apparel, and lawncare, the businesses on display ran the gamut.
Takisha Mundy, Director of Career & Alumni Engagement, called the event a great success and wonderful opportunity for small business owners.
“I have to tell you just how excited I am because we are here to highlight the businesses of our students and alumni,” said Mundy. “We’re super excited. This is a great opportunity to highlight businesses and have our alumni back on campus. So, they can get familiar with campus again, have that Mustang pride and have some organic networking between the groups, which, hopefully, leads to sales.”
Business owners in attendance appreciated the opportunity to showcase their wares and services.
“I’ve been in business for about two years now. I mostly do farmers markets and craft shows so this isn’t really out of the realm for me,” said the owner of Lotus Lynn Wellness teas, a student of the Pottstown campus who asked to have their name withheld. “I would like for the College to do more of these kinds of events. This is definitely a step in the right direction.”
“I appreciate the opportunity to network with other small businesses here and meeting community members,” said Danny Hayes, of Elkins Park, a Business Administration major and owner of Turbo Lawn and Property Care, prior to the start of the event. He’s been running his business since he was a junior in high school. “I’m looking forward to it.” For aspiring entrepreneurs, MCCC offers a 12-credit Entrepreneurship Certificate of Completion program, which teaches the skills essential to running a productive small or large, for- or non-profit business.
