Thirty-three Montgomery County Community College students from the Sound Recording and Music Technology (SRT) and Mass Media Studies programs, accompanied by two instructors, attended a Career Conference at Rock Lititz, gaining firsthand insight into the diverse and dynamic careers in live events, recording, and production.
Located in Lancaster County, Pa., Rock Lititz is one of the nation’s premier destinations for live event production, housing state-of-the-art facilities and world-class professionals who work behind the scenes of concerts, tours, and multimedia productions.
The day-long event provided students with the opportunity to meet industry professionals,
tour production spaces, and learn about a wide range of technical and creative careers in
areas such as live sound, lighting, video production, staging, design, and recording
technologies.
“Experiences like Rock Lititz Career Day connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities,” said David Ivory, Director of the SRT program. “Students see how their skills in audio, video, and media production translate directly into professional careers. It’s an invaluable experience that inspires them to think about their next steps after Montco.”
Funded by a Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Grant, this trip underscores
MCCC’s commitment to hands-on, career-focused education that prepares students for
success in high-demand industries.
Students returned from the experience with a clearer understanding of the pathways available to them in the expanding fields of live entertainment and media production.
“It really opened my eyes to how many roles go into making live shows happen,” said one participating student. “It made me excited to be part of this industry.”
