The lecture, sponsored by the Division of Liberal Arts, will explore how this landmark document shaped the nation and still influences American life today, said Dr. Suzanne del Gizzo, Dean of Liberal Arts.
“Dr. Emily Sneff will take you back in time to 1776 to explore the who, what, where, when, how and why behind the decision to declare independence from Great Britain,” she said, “and then move through time to understand what the past anniversaries have looked like and how the Declaration continues to impact people today.”
Sneff received a Ph.D. in History from The College of William & Mary. She is a consulting curator and advisor for museum exhibitions and public programs marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration in 2026.
MCCC, meanwhile, will continue its commemoration of the 250th anniversary with several
other events, activities and reflections on campus throughout the semester. Among
them include a screening of the Justice Bell replica documentary “Finding Justice: The Untold Story of Women’s Fight for the Vote,” Tuesday,

the legacy of their struggle and the symbol that rang out for equality. The screening
is free and open to all.
On the “Montco on the Move” podcast, the College will commemorate the anniversary with its series “The American Mosaic.” Monthly episodes will feature faculty members from across the Liberal Arts division speaking on a broad range of topics, including music, theatre, politics, identity, and cultural impact.
