MCCC Discovery Programs are an immersive educational initiative designed specifically for learners in grades 5-8. By participating in Discovery Programs, students embark on a journey of exploration that paves the way for their future careers and academic achievement. At Montco we recognize the vital role early exposure to S.T.E.A.M. plays in preparing students for success. That's why we're proud to provide developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned experiences that cultivate growth and learning.
These exceptional programs can be experienced in two unique formats. Groups of 35+ students (or multiple classes) can spend a full day on campus engaging in both a Discovery Program and a space-inspired learning experience at the Challenger Learning Center at Montco Pottstown. Alternatively, you may opt for stand-alone experiences on the Pottstown Campus. Whichever option you choose, students will benefit from enriching campus tours and cutting-edge technologies, cultivating a connection between education and real-world applications.

👩💻 Coding Challenge
Welcome to our exciting Coding Challenge! In this program, students will use Sphero®
Bolt robots or virtual reality to navigate a series of engaging challenges utilizing
block coding. This challenge isn’t just about tech skills. Teams must collaborate,
strategize, and think fast to crack a high-stakes Lockbox Challenge that tests problem-solving
under pressure. These activities promote teamwork and give participants a hands-on
introduction to coding. Join us for a fun and educational journey into the world of
coding and space exploration!
🌍 Science on a Sphere
Step into a World of Discovery with Science on a Sphere®!
SOS is a giant, glowing globe that brings Earth and space science to life! Powered
by real NASA and NOAA data, this high-tech sphere shows hurricanes swirling, ocean
currents moving, and planets spinning—right before your eyes. It’s science like you’ve
never seen it—like holding the whole world in your hands! Join us for an engaging
climate-focused lesson on SOS, complete with hands-on activities that challenge students
to think critically, collaborate, and explore the science behind our changing planet.
🕹️ Drone Challenge
Get ready to take learning to new heights! In this exciting program, students will
dive into the science of flight, exploring the four forces that make it possible:
lift, thrust, drag, and gravity. Through engaging, hands-on activities, they’ll see
these concepts come to life and gain a deeper understanding of aerodynamics and aviation
technology. The highlight? Students will put their knowledge into action by flying
drones and testing their skills in a high-energy game of drone soccer—where STEM learning
takes flight in the most fun way possible!
✈️ Aviation Experience
In this activity, students will learn about engineering principles and how they relate
to airplanes. They will examine the four fundamental forces of flight and learn about
basic aerodynamics. The group will use VR to control a flight simulator that teaches
them aircraft controls and how they result in aerodynamic forces. The experience is
designed to be engaging and fun while academic and indicative of real-world applications.

🪐 Everyday Life on Another Planet
This set of activities is designed to teach students about how machines operate on
other planets, including Mars and the Moon. Students will drive RC cars over simulated
Moon and Mars surfaces to learn about the geology of each planet, and the impact it
has on vehicles. Students will also use a robotic arm to construct a city, teaching
them programming. This activity is designed to be fun while giving students an appreciation
of just how much life would be different on another planet.
