Federal financial aid

The federal government manages several grant and loan programs to help you achieve your educational goals. In order to receive federal financial aid, you must meet certain specific eligibility criteria. The following federal grants, which do not have to be repaid, are available to Montgomery County Community College students.

Federal Pell Grants

The Federal Pell grant is awarded to undergraduate students who have not previously received a bachelor’s or graduate degree. Eligibility is based on an analysis of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), expected family contribution, cost of attendance and enrollment status. To determine your financial need, file your FAFSA.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is open to students that are eligible for the Pell grant and have exceptional financial need. Because SEOG funds are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, not everyone who qualifies receives a grant—so be sure to complete your FAFSA early.
