Date: June 2026

Supersedes: June 2016, June 2010

Purpose

To strengthen students' capacity to achieve their educational objectives,  the College has established academic milestones that provide a structured framework for monitoring ongoing progress toward degree and certificate completion.

Policy

To graduate from the College, students must fulfill all degree or certificate requirements and earn a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or better.  GPAs (semester and/or session courses combined) are calculated at the end of each fall, spring, and summer semester. Courses below the 100-level and courses with a pass/no pass (P/NP) grade are not included in GPA calculations. Acceptable progression toward graduation including accolades, toward graduation includes maintaining a cumulative GPA as outlined below.

  1. Accolades
    A. Dean's List: The College recognizes the academic achievement of students by awarding Dean's List status. To qualify for the Dean's List, students must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or above and completed six (6) or more credits in the most recently completed semester. Students may not have earned any F, FS, XF, NP, or I grades for that semester.
    B. Graduation Honors: to graduate from the College with an Honors distinction, students must have earned a cumulative GPA of:

         i. 3.75 to 4.00 for Summa Cum Laude
ii. 3.50 to 3.74 for Magna Cum Laude
iii. 3.25 to 3.49 for Cum Laude
    C. Students with an XF grade on their transcript are ineligible for Dean's List and Graduation Honors accolades.

    A. Academic Warning
Students will be placed on academic warning if they have a semester or cumulative GPA below 2.0 after having attempted six (6) credits.
    B. Academic Probation
Students will be placed on academic probation if they have a cumulative GPA below 2.0 for two (2) consecutive semesters, and their most recent semester GPA is also below 2.0.
    C. Academic Suspension
Students who remain below a 2.0 cumulative GPA after two (2) consecutive semesters on academic probation will be placed on academic suspension.
  3. Procedure
    A. Credit Overload: Only students in good academic standing are eligible to enroll in more than 18 credits in a semester or more than eight (8) credits in an accelerated session. Winter registration is limited to one course and is only available for students in good academic standing.
    B. Academic Warning: Students must connect with an advisor prior to registering. While there is no restriction on the number of credits taken while on academic warning, students are encouraged to work with their advisor to choose a course load that supports their academic success.
    C. Academic Probation: Students are limited to no more than seven (7) credits per semester and no more than four (4) credits in an accelerated session. A registration hold will be placed on their record, requiring students to connect with an advisor to create a plan for academic success.

After the enrollment break, students are required to meet with their academic advisor to create a plan for academic success. Registration is restricted to up to two (2) courses, a maximum of seven (7) credits.
