Purpose of the Test
The ESL placement test is administered to assist students with course registration for ESL courses.
About the Test
The Accuplacer ESL placement assessment is a four-part test, measuring:
- ESL Language Use
- ESL Sentence Meaning
- ESL Reading
- WritePlacer ESL
Scores earned on this comprehensive assessment yield ESL or English course placement. Once completed, students will meet with their academic advisor to review their course registration.
The ESL placement test may only be taken two times.
Steps for students needing to take the ESL Placement test:
- Students that are recommended to take the test can schedule an appointment by emailing testing@mc3.edu.

Blue Bell Campus Testing Center allows drop-in ESL placement Testing during its regular hours. Pottstown Campus Testing Center is by appointment only. Drop-ins for ESL Placement Testing are not permitted during finals week. |
- Bring a photo ID (required). A current student ID, driver’s license, state or military ID, or passport will be accepted.
- Allow yourself enough time to take each test. You will need to start and finish the test on the same day. The four parts of the ESL test take a total of approximately 2 hours to complete.
- Prohibited items while testing:
- Cellphones and electronics
- Wearable smart devices including, but not limited to, smartwatches, smart glasses, smart jewelry
- Wireless headphones
- Food, drinks, gum
- After the test, discuss the results with your academic advisor and plan your course registration.

Arranging Virtual Placement Assessments for ESL (International Students Only)
- There is a $25 fee for virtual testing.
- Contact testing@mc3.eduto request a voucher. Include your name, date of birth, student ID and tests you want to take. We will take it from there and guide you through the rest of the process.
